28/06/2008 - George Harrison

The death has taken place of our clubmate George Harrison. Sadly, George died in the clubhouse on Thursday evening last June 26th, following a run in the Park.

George was a long standing Liffey Valley man and enjoyed running on the road best. He completed a number of marathons and added his name to the distinguished list of Avondale Cup winners some years ago.

His long run for home down the Back Road at the end of a snappy "8" left many of Dad's Army trailing in his wake in George's hayday. Anyone who upset the pace of the group would be given their PFO papers on return to the club.

George was a great source of encouragement to many of the girls over recent years when we set about reviving the womens group.

He had recovered from a serious ilness in November 2006 to get back running and on Sunday last in driving rain ran a few miles in the Park with his running mate of recent times Dermot Ryan.

George's acerbic wit and good humour will be missed by all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with George's wife and family at this sad time.
